Corporate workshops in Milan: how makers get company requests

To get corporate workshop requests in Milan without doing any selling, a maker needs someone who collects companies' requests and handles the relationship with them. On Handsome it works like this: the company writes to Handsome, Handsome picks a Maker in the area and offers them the event, and the Maker replies with a date, a time and a complete proposal, without ever dealing with the company directly.

In Milan a corporate request tests three things: the real capacity of your format, how well it fits office hours, and whether you are willing to go to the client's premises, sometimes with a group that works in English. The business calendar also has its own moments: Christmas, the spring of Design Week, the end of the season before the summer. Here you will find what a request looks like, what to prepare, how the process through Handsome works and how to read the year in Milan.

In short: companies write to Handsome from the page for businesses, giving 2 to 4 possible dates, the exact number of participants (from 2 to 500), a time slot and whether they already have a venue. Handsome handles the whole relationship with the company and offers the event to a Maker in the area: you reply with your availability and a proposal, including your price per person for your work. Once the company confirms with a deposit, you receive what you need to organise the day and invoice your service.

Corporate workshops in Milan: what a request looks like

The form that companies fill in on the page for businesses lists Milan among its cities and asks for a few things, all of them concrete. They are also the details your proposal starts from:

  • 2 to 4 possible dates. With a single date it is hard to find a Maker who is free, which is why the form asks for at least two.
  • The exact number of participants, from 2 to 500. Not a range: a number.
  • The time slot: morning (9 am to 1 pm), afternoon (2 pm to 6 pm), evening (6 pm to 10 pm), full day or flexible.
  • The venue: the company says whether it already has a space, such as a room in its own offices, or whether Handsome should find one.

To see the request through the eyes of the person writing it, read the guides for companies on creative team building in Milan and on a company event in a craft studio. There are two scenarios.

The group comes to you

If the workshop takes place in your space, what matters is how a group leaving the office gets there. Many company offices in Milan sit in districts served by the metro, such as Porta Nuova (M2 and M5 Garibaldi, M5 Isola), CityLife (M5 Tre Torri) or Bicocca (M5 Bicocca): a studio a few minutes from a station is easier to propose than one you can only reach by car. Seated capacity matters too, not standing capacity: twenty people working with their hands take up far more room than twenty people at a drinks reception. If the company has no venue and you can host the group at your studio, say so in the notes of your proposal.

You go to the client's premises

If the company already has a room, the workshop travels: a meeting room, office tables, sometimes no sink nearby, a reception desk and badges. Handsome handles the address and gives you the details once the event is confirmed: you bring everything. If you travel by vehicle, remember that Area C, the limited traffic zone inside the Cerchia dei Bastioni, is charged Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, public holidays excluded: in those hours you need a daily ticket. Area B, the low-emission zone covering most of the municipality, bars the most polluting vehicles during the same hours. You can check your number plate on the Comune's website before accepting a date in the centre.

What to prepare before a request arrives

A corporate request arrives with the dates already chosen and a company waiting. Handsome promises businesses a reply within 24 hours and a proposal within 2 working days: there is no time to invent a format from scratch. It pays to have these things ready.

  1. Your real capacity. How many people you can guide on your own, how many with an assistant, and the minimum below which you do not start. If the request is for 40 people and your maximum is 15, you need to know at once whether you can run several sessions or whether it is better to say no.
  2. A format that fits a time slot. Morning and afternoon slots last four hours: a two-hour or two-and-a-half-hour workshop fits inside one, with time to welcome people and wrap up. The evening, from 6 pm, is the after-work slot.
  3. A kit you can carry. Materials split per person, table protection, tools counted. If the work has to be finished afterwards, as with firing ceramics, decide beforehand how and when the pieces get back to people and say so in the proposal.
  4. An English version. In the Milan offices of international groups you may well meet a team that works in English. Have the title, description, safety instructions and the trade words you will use at the bench ready in English.
  5. A proposal you can reuse. When you reply you can start from a saved proposal, which fills in the fields, or from one of your workshops, which copies the texts and photos. Every proposal you send is kept under “My proposals”: next time you do not start from scratch.
  6. Photos of the work, not the brand. For the proposal choose shots of hands, pieces and tables, with no logo, shop sign or social handle in view: it is Handsome that presents the proposal to the company.

How a request reaches you on Handsome, step by step

  1. The company writes to Handsome. From the page for businesses it gives the city, dates, number of people, time slot and whether it already has a venue.
  2. Handsome offers you the event. It picks a Maker in the area who suits that request and, if it is you, lets you know with a notification.
  3. You reply with a date and a time. You pick one of the company's dates or suggest another, with a start and end time. If none of the dates works for you, you can say straight away that you are not available.
  4. You attach your proposal. Title, description, what people take home, materials included, photos, your price per person for your work, and notes.
  5. Handsome prepares the proposal for the company starting from the date and time you gave, and holds the date for them for 7 days: keep it free on your side too.
  6. The company pays the deposit online and the event is confirmed. You receive an email with what you need to organise the day and invoice your service to the company; Handsome coordinates the details with you.
Reply even when the answer is no. Saying straight away that you are not available lets Handsome look elsewhere: far better than a request left sitting for days.

Why company requests go only through Handsome

The flow is mediated on purpose: Handsome handles the relationship with the company from start to finish, and you look after what you do best.

What Handsome does

  • Collects the company's request and picks a suitable Maker in the area.
  • Presents the proposal to the company and manages the deposit.
  • Handles communication with the company up to the day of the event and coordinates the details with you, venue included.

What you do

  • Reply with your availability and a complete proposal, including your price per person for your work.
  • Prepare the kit and run the workshop.
  • Once the event is confirmed, invoice your service to the company.

For you that means no clients to hunt for and no confirmations or deposits to chase; for the company, a single point of contact for everything.

If a company contacts you directly, for instance after seeing you on social media, point them to the page for businesses. The request then goes through Handsome, which picks the Maker for that event, and from there everything described here applies.

The year in Milan

Company requests do not arrive evenly through the year. This is a rough reading of the Milan calendar, useful for preparing kits and proposals before you need them.

  • October to December, Christmas. Dinners, gifts and end-of-year activities are decided in the autumn: for handmade corporate gifts in Milan November is already late. 7 December, Sant'Ambrogio, is the patron saint's day and a holiday in Milan: in 2026 it falls on a Monday and the next day is the Immaculate Conception, so for many offices the week of 7 December has only three working days.
  • January to March, the restart. Start-of-year meetings and new arrivals: a short workshop, in the morning or the afternoon, fits into a working day without taking it over.
  • April, Design Week. The Salone del Mobile 2027 is scheduled for 13 to 18 April at Fiera Milano, Rho, with the Fuorisalone spread across the city: many companies host clients and partners, and diaries and venues fill up early. To take part with your own studio too, read how to take part in the Fuorisalone as a maker.
  • May and June, the end of the season. Before the holidays companies close the half-year, and with the long days the evening slot comes into its own.
  • July and August, the break. In August Milan empties: these are the right weeks to restock your kits and write proposals you can reuse.
  • September, the return. Projects restart and new hires arrive: a short workshop helps a new group get to know each other.

Why start now if you work in Milan

On Handsome, Milan is a city still to be opened up: as of October 2026 the Milan workshops page has no bookable workshops yet. For anyone publishing now that means one simple thing: on that page there is nobody ahead of you.

Company requests are reserved for Makers whose VAT number has been verified by the team. Those who work without one, as Apprentices, publish public group workshops only and do not receive company requests, partly because the service has to be invoiced to the company: for electronic invoicing the reference is the Agenzia delle Entrate. If you are not yet sure which profile suits you, read hobbyist or artisan: which profile to choose.

To be ready when a request from Milan arrives, three steps are enough:

  1. Open your free profile as a Maker, giving your VAT number: it takes about 15 to 20 minutes, with real photos of your work and the right craft.
  2. The team approves your profile within 24 to 48 hours and verifies your VAT number: that is what opens company requests to you.
  3. Publish at least one workshop. It shows Handsome what you do, and it is where your first proposal can start: when you reply you can start from one of your workshops.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find companies for team building as a maker in Milan?
You can look for them one by one, or receive their requests through a platform that mediates them. On Handsome, companies write to Handsome, which handles the whole relationship with them and offers the event to a Maker in the area: you reply with a date, a time and a proposal, without doing any selling.
Do I need a VAT number to run corporate workshops?
On Handsome, yes: company requests are reserved for Makers with a verified VAT number, because the service is invoiced to the company. Apprentices without a VAT number can publish public group workshops only and do not receive company requests.
How much do I earn from a corporate workshop on Handsome?
It starts from the price you set: in the proposal you give your price per person for your work, and what you earn grows with the number of participants. Once the event is confirmed, the confirmation email gives you the amount to invoice to the company for your service, and that is what you receive.
Who deals with the company?
Handsome, from start to finish: it collects the request, presents the proposal, manages the deposit and handles communication. You prepare the proposal and the workshop and, once the company confirms with a deposit, you receive what you need to organise the day and invoice your service.
Can I run the workshop at the company's offices in Milan?
Yes, if the company already has a room it says so in the form. Handsome handles the address and the details arrive once the event is confirmed. You need a kit you can carry and, if you drive into Area C on a weekday between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm, a daily ticket.
Can I turn down a company request?
Yes. You can say straight away that you are not available, so that Handsome can look elsewhere, or suggest another date with your own times.

Free profile. Once your VAT number is verified you can also receive requests from companies.
