The person who just spent three hours at your wheel is the closest thing you have to a buyer. On Handsome, a Maker's workshops and products live on the same public page: people who come for the class find the objects, people who come for an object find the dates. It is not an extra feature. It is the reason selling here makes sense, while on a generic marketplace you are one listing among all the others.
Since 18 September 2026 every Maker with a verified Italian VAT number and a connected Stripe account can publish their pieces. Handsome takes no commission on the sale: the payment starts on the Maker's own Stripe account, and the only cost is the standard Stripe fee. On workshops the commission is 0%. The technical side is covered in how selling without commissions works. This piece is about why the two together are worth more than the sum.
Why people who took the class buy
A customer who finds you on a marketplace has one problem: they do not know you. They have to decide from five photos and a paragraph, and price often becomes the only criterion. Someone who took your workshop already made that decision, with their hands.
- They handled the material. They know the bowl weighs that much because stoneware weighs that much.
- They watched you work. They know how long one piece takes, and the price stops looking high.
- They tried it. Their wobbly rim next to your clean one is the best argument for your craft you will ever get.
- They know where you are, and who to write to if something goes wrong.
- They have a story to tell when they give your piece as a gift: I was in the studio where this was made.
It is the difference between explaining value and letting someone live it. A class does in three hours what captions take months to do.
The loop: class, trust, purchase, gift
The path studios with a few years of classes behind them describe seeing has five steps.
- Someone books a workshop. They leave a 10 euro deposit per seat for a group class, or 25 euro for a private session: the payment starts on your own Stripe account, and you take the balance in the studio.
- They spend three hours with you. They leave with their own imperfect piece and a clear idea of the work behind yours.
- In the following weeks they may come back for the proper version: the one they actually wanted, and can now recognise.
- Around the holidays they look at what else you make and pick something to give, because the gift comes with a story.
- Whoever receives the gift asks where it came from: a new person arrives already halfway there.
It is not a guaranteed sequence: it is what can happen when the contact is not lost after the class. Here is the method, turning participants into repeat customers, and here is the right moment to ask for a review.

Create your free Handsome profileHow it looks on your page
Your public profile holds both without asking you to run two tools: class dates at the top, the pieces for sale in their own shop inside the same profile. Your profile and your workshop pages turn up in search engines; the product shop lives inside the profile, so it reaches people who arrive at your name, people who walk out of your class, and anyone you send the link to. And it is one link: you send it in a chat or print it on a card.
- The free plan lets you publish 5 pieces, with unlimited drafts: prepare the catalogue calmly and publish in waves.
- With Handsome Pro, 9.90 euro a month or 95 euro a year, the cap disappears. The trial runs 30 days and asks for no card.
- If Pro lapses you lose nothing: the 5 most recent pieces stay online, the others go back to draft and return when you renew.
- Shipping is yours to set, cost and free threshold; Handsome collects the buyer's address at checkout. If you prefer studio pickup, shipping never enters the picture at all.
- Product payments start on your own Stripe account, the same one as your workshop deposits. One account, two revenue lines.
What to sell after a workshop
You do not need a catalogue. You need a handful of pieces chosen by listening to what participants ask on their way out.
- The professional version of what they made: same shape, same glaze, done properly. It is what they ask about while they put their coat back on.
- The material to keep going at home. Kits, refills, the one tool they used in class and liked.
- The big piece that cannot be made in three hours. The class is the taste, this is the meal.
- The gift format, boxed and ready, published in October rather than December.
- Gift cards, when what they want to give is the experience itself: more on that in selling gift cards for the holidays.
Five published pieces, exactly what the free plan allows, already cover all of that.
What you need to start
There are three requirements and they do not change: a verified Italian VAT number, a connected Stripe account, and accepting the selling terms. If your workshops are already live, Stripe is done and the rest takes minutes. The steps in order are in VAT number, Stripe and five free pieces; the identity check Stripe asks for is explained in its official guide, and for tax matters the reference is the Italian Revenue Agency portal.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Handsome take a percentage of the products I sell?
- No. Handsome takes no commission on the sale: the payment starts on the Maker's own Stripe account and the only cost is the standard fee Stripe charges on any payment, listed on the official pricing page (stripe.com/it/pricing). On workshops the commission is 0% and the deposit reaches the Maker in full.
- How many products can I publish for free?
- Five published pieces on the free plan, with unlimited drafts: prepare as many listings as you like and decide later which go live. With Handsome Pro, 9.90 euro a month or 95 euro a year with a 30-day trial and no card required, the cap disappears.
- Do I need active workshops to sell products?
- No, products work on their own. The advantage of the combination is practical: someone who took your class knows your work up close, and the same page that lists your dates also shows your pieces. If you already run classes, the products go there, on the same Stripe account, with no extra tool to manage.
- Who handles shipping?
- You do: you set the cost and the threshold above which it is free, then ship the way you already do. Handsome collects the buyer's address at checkout and hands it to you with the order, so you chase no one by message. If you hand pieces over in person, you set studio pickup.
- What happens if a participant cancels?
- It depends on the type of class. For a group workshop, cancellation is free up to 3 days before the date; for a private session, where the deposit is 25 euro, the deadline is 7 days before. Past those deadlines the deposit stays with the Maker, who held the seat and bought the materials.
- Is it worth it compared to a marketplace like Etsy?
- It depends what you are after. A large marketplace brings traffic but carries fixed and variable costs: Etsy charges roughly 0.20 dollars per listing, payable whether or not the item sells, and roughly a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping, plus payment processing fees; always check the official fees page (etsy.com/legal/fees), since they change. On Handsome there is no platform commission on the sale, but the audience that reaches you comes mostly from your own classes and your own area.
The point is this: the class makes you known, the products give the people who already know you a way to take a piece of your work home. Keeping them apart means losing the easiest step you have. If you are comparing costs with a large marketplace, the official numbers are on the Etsy fees page, and the maths on a 40 euro piece is in what it really costs to sell online.
